God's Word For Peace Officers:
Tactical Edition Bible

Reviewed by Dr. Tom Mijares, Criminal Justice Department, Texas State University:

"It is infrequent that a version of The Bible would be reviewed in the secular media and perhaps even less frequent that spiritual literature would be recommended to be part of the tactical operator's library. However, the recent events in Los Angeles have made us aware that even the most experienced and skilled tactical operator is mortal and only one shot away from eternity."

"God's Word for Peace Officers: Tactical Edition Bible is more than a modern interpretation. The scriptures are prefaced by 95 pages written by Chaplain Stephen C. Lee to address the specific spiritual needs of peace officers. Chaplain Lee was deputy with the Mendocino (CA) County Sheriff's Office assigned to the SWAT Team and an agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service before pursuing a second career in the clergy. After graduating from the seminary, he ultimately founded Peace Officer Ministries."

"Part I (The Path to Peace for a Peace Officer) of the preface consists of 18 essays describing how peace officers can and should bring a proper balance between their professional and spiritual lives. Part II (God's Word-Our Backup Book) is sub-divided into five sections with advice on integrating scripture with practical problem solving in law enforcement. Part III (Meditations) consists of four essays for strengthening the spirituality of all law enforcement personnel. Part IV (To Protect and Serve) describes how the peace officer's obligation to protect and serve comes from both sacred and secular authority."

"While training sessions are provided on a variety of topics to improve the peace officer's job skills and abilities, the task and responsibility for addressing spiritual needs is highly individualized. Chaplain Lee provides realistic and achievable guidelines to fulfill this need."
