Benevolent Line of Duty Death Bibles
Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. – John 15:13
Jesus Christ is the ultimate “back-up” for life. The Gospel brings comfort and consolation that there is no greater love than to give up your life for another — this is what Christ did for us all. Our law enforcement heroes willingly put their lives on the line daily as God’s instrument of justice. We want to remind them that being a peace officer is a Godly calling and their duty a noble one.
Upon notice of a Line of Duty Death (LODD) and as financial resources are available, P.O.M. sends a Tactical Edition Bible and a letter to the Department expressing our sympathy on behalf of the ministry and partners. The Bible is to be given to a coworker or family member at the Department’s discretion as an expression of comfort and support.
During 2016, P.O.M. began partnering with Quick Response Team, lead by P.O.M. founder Rev. Steven Lee, to, when feasible, offer spiritual care and support through personal delivery of our Bible on the unfortunate occurrence of a LODD.
According to National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, on average, one law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty somewhere in the United States every 53 hours. Since the first known LODD in 1792, nearly 19,000 U.S. law enforcement officers have made the ultimate sacrifice. Based on the average LODD of previous three years and the cost of printing & shipping the Bibles, the approximate cost to P.O.M. for a year would be $1,400 to send to every LODD notification.
Critical Incident Response
Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. — Galatians 6:2
In the aftermath of a Critical Incident, P.O.M. has the expertise in crisis response to provide an appropriate level of spiritual and personal care to first responders as they respond to the needs of the community in crisis.
When invited, P.O.M. responds to crisis all around the world to support first responders by providing expertise in stress management and spiritual care. P.O.M. has served on-scene at the Focus on the Family hostage crisis, Columbine shooting, 9/11 Ground Zero, New Mexico and California wildfires, Hurricane Katrina, Virginia Tech and Alabama Shootings, the America Samoa Tsunami, and the earthquake in Haiti.
During 2016, P.O.M. began partnering with Quick Response Team, lead by P.O.M. founder Rev. Steven Lee, to offer critical incidence spiritual care and support. Since this partnership, we have ministered to people impacted by the water crisis in Flint, Michigan, victims of deadly tornados in Louisiana, and those suffering from flooding in Houston, TX
In most instances, P.O.M. must provide for the expense of Chaplains Ruffatto & Lee to cover travel/transportation, lodging, food, necessary supplies and resources assessed upon the arrival at the scene as well as maintaining a “go” bag with deployment equipment. Based on prior years expenses, the approximate annual cost to P.O.M. to be available to meet this need is $10,000.
